Today was day 2 of production!
I feel so incredibly grateful for those who have agreed to be apart of the film and trust me and my intentions. I know it can be daunting to have someone contact you out of the blue and request an interview on camera. Today, I was graciously welcomed by Maya at Chocolate Maya in Santa Barbara, Ca.
I can remember coming to her store a few years ago (shortly after I returned from the Peace Corp) and feeling such relief to know that there are people like Maya who really do appreciate good chocolate and the hard work the cacao farmers do. Her selection of fine chocolate bars is testament to the fact that, all chocolate is not equal.
During our interview, we covered various topics including; how she sources her chocolate, what consumer trends she is noticing, ways to improve the chocolate supply chain, cacao genetics and the Heirloom Cacao preservation.
Maya also hosted a private chocolate tasting where her passion for educating the public was apparent! She even let the group try the infamous Fortunato no 4 yum yum yum.
Maya travels to a lot of cacao producing countries. "like" her on Facebook to get chocolate Maya’s updates and make sure to stop into their shop next time you in Santa Barbara, you will not be disappointed.
